Competition Rules

Champion of Champions (amended November 2013)

The competition shall be open to all male & female members of affiliated clubs who have won their club’s Singles Championship, plus the winners of the Wimbledon & District Singles and Champion of Champions competitions, in the preceding season.  Each player shall use four bowls and the first to score 21 shots shall be the winner.

Men’s Singles

The competition shall be open to all male members of affiliated clubs.  Each player shall use four bowls and the first to score 21 shots shall be the winner.

Ladies Singles

The competition shall be open to all female members of affiliated clubs.  Each player shall use four bowls and the first to score 21 shots shall be the winner.

Over Sixty’s Men’s Singles

The competition shall be open to all male members of affiliated clubs aged 60 years or over on 1st. May (current season).  Each player shall use four bowls and the first to score 21 shots shall be the winner.

 Men’s Pairs

The competition shall be open to all male members of affiliated clubs.  Both players shall be from the same club and each use four bowls.  The team with the highest score after 18 ends shall be the winners.  In the event of a tied score after 18 ends an extra end shall be played.

Ladies Pairs

The competition shall be open to all female members of affiliated clubs.  Both players shall be from the same club and each use four bowls.  The team with the highest score after 18 ends shall be the winners.  In the event of a tied score after 18 ends an extra end shall be played.

Mixed Pairs

The competition shall be open to one male player and one female player. The male & female players must be from bona fide affiliated clubs.  The players do not have to be members of the same club.  Each player shall use four bowls.  The team with the highest score after 18 ends shall be the winners.  In the event of a tied score after 18 ends an extra end shall be played.

Over 55 Mixed Pairs

The competition shall be open to one male player and one female player. The male & female players must be from bona fide affiliated clubs. The players do not have to be members of the same club.  Each player shall use four bowls.  The team with the highest score after 18 ends shall be the winners.  In the event of a tied score after 18 ends an extra end shall be played. Competitors must be 55 years or over on 1st. May (current season).

 

Triples

The competition shall be open to all male members of affiliated clubs.  All three players shall be from the same club and use three bowls each.  The team with the highest score after 18 ends shall be the winners.  In the event of a tied score after 18 ends an extra end shall be played.

Fours

The competition shall be open to all male members of affiliated clubs.  All four players shall be from the same club and use two bowls each.  The team with the highest score after 18 ends shall be the winners.  In the event of a tied score after 18 ends an extra end shall be played.

Bill Simpson Rose Bowl (mixed triples)

The competition shall be open to teams comprising of 2 male and 1 female or 1 male and 2 females players. The male & female players must be from bona fide affiliated clubs. The players do not have to be members of the same club.   Each player shall use 2 bowls.  The team with the highest score shall be the winners. In the event of a tied score after 18 ends an extra end shall be played.

Top Ten Competition

A Top Ten Knockout Competition shall be open to all affiliated clubs. Teams shall consist of 10 players – 1 single, 1 pair, 1 triple, 1 rink. All 4 games to start at the same time on the same date. Dates to be agreed between competing teams, on or before the designated closing date. The winners to be decided by the overall total shots scored. In the event of the Overall Shots Scored being equal. The fours shall play an extra end and the winner of the extra end shall be declared the winner. The home team is the home team and all matches are to be played at the home teams venue.  This competition is a mixed competition, although you do not have to field a mixed team and can be all men, all women or mixed.

General

All matches shall be played in accordance with the Joint Rules of the Game as laid down in the E. B. A. year book and Wimbledon & District Competition Rules, played on or before set dates.  The Competition Secretary shall have the power to extend the set date should circumstances dictate (e.g. adverse weather).

Dual Membership

No dual membership member will be allowed to play in, or substitute in the Wimbledon & District Competitions for more than one club at any time.

Match Arrangements

The first named player(s) is (are) the challenger(s) and in the case of all singles competitions is required to provide a marker. 

Challengers should contact their opponents to offer three (3) dates, within three (3) days of receiving notification.  One of which should be a weekend, times offered for midweek games should not be before 6.00pm. Or after 6.30pm. Except by mutual consent.

 However, if the opponent has not receive an offer after three (3) days of receiving notification, he should endeavour to contact the challenger and demand three dates, notifying the Competition Secretary of the action taken. Any player or team who fails to attend on an agreed date, or is more than 30 minutes late, shall forfeit the game and their opponents shall go forward to the next round.

Substitutes

One substitute who has not been entered in the same competition will be permitted.  The substitute may skip if required.

Semi Finals (amended November 2013)    

Semi Finals will be played on a neutral green selected by the home player, but the venue has to be agreed by the opponent, any dispute, the Competition Secretary will make the final decision. In the case of mixed competitions where the players come from different clubs, the neutral green must be neutral for all players.

Finals

Finals will be played on nominated greens.

Any Competitor/Competitors who having won their Semi Final, and do not turn up to play in the Final within 30 Minutes of the specified time, should not be allowed to enter the Wimbledon & District Competitions in the following season – unless there are extenuating circumstances such as serious illness or bereavement.

Competition Draw

The Competition Secretary and two members of the Executive committee shall make the draw for the Competitions at the earliest opportunity following the closing date for entries, Only the first round is to be drawn, the remaining rounds will follow from the first round ladder.

Notification of Results

The Competition Secretary shall be notified of results by telephone or e-mail, between the hours of 9.00a.m. & 10.00p.m.. Within 24 hours of the game being played.  Scorecards should be retained by the winner and should be made available to the Competition Secretary on request.

Results will be published on the Association’s Website, and it is the responsibility of the players concerned to determine who their opponents are in the next round, by using the Associations website, or by contacting the Competition Secretary after the closing date of the current round

 

Disputes / Protests

Disputes and protests should be notified immediately by telephone to the Competition Secretary and confirmed in writing within five (5) days of the game being played.  In the event of the Competition Secretary being unable to resolve the matter to the satisfaction of the parties concerned, he shall refer it to the Executive Committee, whose decision is final.
