WIMBLEDON & DISTRICT BOWLING ASSOCIATION
Midweek League Rules
GENERAL:
ML1: The Midweek League will be split into two divisions. At the end of the season the winners of Division 2 will be promoted to Division 1 and the bottom placed team in Division 1 will be relegated to Division 2.
ML2: Clubs will play all of the other clubs in their division in home and away matches. Dates of League Matches will be sent to clubs by the League Secretary, once available dates have been received from all participating clubs. Clubs must provide at least 3 dates in each of the months of May, June, July, August, and September, on which they will be available to play matches.
ML3: All matches are to be played on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday afternoon. All Matches are to start at 1:30pm.
ML4: The League Secretary will endeavour to resolve any disputes or problems which arise during the Midweek League season. If the League Secretary is unable to provide a resolution, which is acceptable to the clubs involved, then all relevant details will be passed to the Executive Committee, in order for them to finalise a resolution.
MATCH FORMATS:
ML5: Matches will consist of each club fielding two triples of three players, with each player playing three bowls each. The duration of the match will be 18 ends.
ML6: If prevailing circumstances prevent a match from being completed, then a minimum of 13 ends per triple, or a total of 26 ends, must be completed for a result to be declared. Both Captains must be in agreement if only the minimum number of ends are to be completed in order for the match to be deemed complete. The scores at the end of play will then be treated as the final score, with League Points awarded accordingly.
ML7: A maximum of two players may be absent from a team. All players will only use three bowls and the second player, from the non-defaulting team will bowl three consecutive bowls on each end played. All shots scored will count.
ML8: In the event that the number of absentees from any team exceeds two then the match must be rearranged, subject to mutual agreement by both clubs, or conceded.
SCORING:
ML9: Four Points will be awarded to the winning club, for an overall aggregate shots win.
Two Points will be awarded to each club, for an overall aggregate shots tie.
Two Points will be awarded for each winning triple.
One Point will be awarded for each rink on which the score is tied.
CONCESSIONS:
ML10: If a team concedes a match then they will incur a deduction of 6 League Points. The Non-Defaulting team will be awarded 6 League Points and 10 Shots will be added to their overall total.
UNREGISTERED PLAYERS:
ML11: Any team that plays an unregistered player shall forfeit any points gained in that match. This will also result in the Non-Defaulting team being awarded 8 League Points. As the deduction of points is seen as a harsh enough penalty for infringing Rule LR5 the result of the match, i.e Win, Loss or Draw, in respect of both teams, shall remain unchanged on the Midweek League Table and shots scored, for or against each team, shall also remain unchanged. The League Secretary will conduct random audits of Result Cards, against Player Registrations, throughout the season.
