Weekend League Rules
WIMBLEDON & DISTRICT BOWLING ASSOCIATION
Weekend League Rules
GENERAL:
WL1: All clubs will play each other in home and away matches, on dates mutually agreed by their Match Secretaries. Matches will be played on Saturday or Sunday afternoons, as agreed by the clubs. Matches should start no later than 3:00pm.
WL2: All clubs are required to submit a copy of their Fixture List/Card to the League Secretary, prior to their first match of the season.
WL3: The club finishing top of the League will hold the Championship Cup for one year.
WL4: The League Secretary will endeavour to resolve any disputes or problems which arise during the Weekend League season. If the League Secretary is unable to provide a resolution, which is acceptable to the clubs involved, then all relevant details will be passed to the Executive Committee, in order for them to finalise a resolution.
MATCH FORMATS:
WL5: Matches will consist of each club fielding three rinks of 4 players, with each player playing two bowls each. The duration of the match will be 21 ends.
WL6: If prevailing circumstances prevent a match from being completed, then a minimum of 15 ends per rink, or a total of 45 ends, must be completed for a result to be declared. Both Captains must be in agreement if only the minimum number of ends are to be completed in order for the match to be deemed complete. The scores at the end of play will then be treated as the final score, with League Points awarded accordingly.
WL7: A maximum of 3 players may be absent from a team. When both clubs are players short in a match then a Triple will play a Triple and Fours play Fours. When a Triple plays a Four then the members of the Triple shall only play with two bowls each. The number 2 of the Four shall go unanswered and once the number 2, of the Four, has bowled the order of play will revert back to that bowled by the Leads. No shots will be deducted as there is no longer an advantage two players playing with three bowls. If, and only if, a Triple plays against a Triple then each player will play with three bowls.
WL8: In the event that the number of absentees from any team exceeds three then the match must be rearranged, subject to mutual agreement by both clubs, or conceded.
SCORING:
WL9: Four Points will be awarded to the winning club, for an overall aggregate shots win.
Two Points will be awarded to each club, for an overall aggregate shots tie.
Two Points will be awarded for each winning rink.
One Point will be awarded for each rink on which the score is tied.
CONCESSIONS:
WL10: If a team concedes a match then they will incur a deduction of 7 League Points. The Non-Defaulting team will be awarded 7 League Points and 10 Shots will be added to their overall total.
UNREGISTERED PLAYERS:
WL11: Any team that plays an unregistered player shall forfeit any points gained in that match. This will also result in the Non-Defaulting team being awarded 10 League Points. As the deduction of points is seen as a harsh enough penalty for infringing Rule LR5 the result of the match, i.e Win, Loss or Draw, in respect of both teams, shall remain unchanged on the Weekend League Table and shots scored, for or against each team, shall also remain unchanged. The League Secretary will conduct random audits of Result Cards, against Player Registrations, throughout the season.
